Rules and regulations:

Rules listed in the general rules section in addition to following rules will apply to the Breeding Stock Show.

All cattle should be doubled-tied in stall areas with halter and neck rope.
-
Cattle will be released for tie-out at 8 p.m. Cattle must be tied in by 8 a.m. daily.
-
Unmanageable cattle that cannot be shown in the ring will not be judged or receive a ribbon or be eligible for sale. Nose leads are permissible. The judge or superintendent will make the final decision on cattle that are unmanageable in the ring.

No artificial grooming practices, internal or external, will be allowed, anyone breaking this rule will be disqualified and not allowed to show or sell.

Hair- the use of artificial tail fins or the addition of any hair or hair-like substance to the animal’s body, excluding a false tail switch, will not be permitted, anyone breaking this rule will be disqualified and not allowed to show or sell.

All rule changes for the current show year will be made prior to weigh-in of that season with no rule changes made after that for the current fair year.

(New rule for 2008): Exhibitors will be responsible for providing their own bedding in the barn and that there will be no stall fee's. Exhibitors will only need to pay for the entries and the Exhibitor Pass.

All exhibitors are required to purchase an Exhibitor’s Pass at the time of registration in addition to the required registration fee.

An exhibitor may enter as many animals as they wish in a single class.

11. A per animal stall fee based upon the chart included below is due with advanced Entry Form to Open Show Superintendent by Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Exhibitor must have name, date of birth, and breed of each animal entered. Any substitutions must be approved by the Open Show Superintendent. Stall space will be assigned based upon pre-entries received by Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Exhibitor must furnish tie out bedding. Late entries will be charged an additional late fee of $10 per entry and will not be guaranteed a stall space.

All cattle must be registered, except for the commercial heifers. The original registration papers of all animals on display must be presented at check-in (duplicates will not be accepted). Registration papers may be called for and must be presented to the Open Show Committee at any time during the fair.

The chairpersons will make a show order and class make-up. Any class, which has 10 or more, may be split into two classes. Classes will be split by animal’s age.

At least two animals, from at least two different owners, must show (total of four (4) animals) within a breed for that breed to qualify for prize money. All others will show in All Other Breeds.

All premiums will be pro-rated.
BREEDING CATTLE SHOW CLASSES Section B
Instructions for entering Class Numbers on the Animal Entry Form:
Classes will be listed by using a two step process:

Step 2: The Breed ID is followed by one of the following class numbers.

Junior Heifer (born on or after January 1, 2008 minimum age).

Junior Bull (born on or after January 1, 2008 minimum age).

Two bulls; any age, and same breed from above classes. Both to be owned by exhibitor.

Pair; one bull and one heifer (excludes cows shown in pairs), any age from above classes. Both to be owned by exhibitor.

Get of Sire three (3) animals sired by one sire, and from above classes. Both sexes to be represented. All to be owned by exhibitor.
ENTRY EXAMPLE: If I have a purebred Duroc gilt to show as breeding and a crossbred to show as a market hog, this is how I would fill out my entry form:

Rules listed in the general rules section and Open Breeding Beef Show Rules in addition to following rules will apply to the Jr. Breeding Stock Show.

Boone County 4-H or FFA members who are in good standing with their clubs or chapters are eligible to exhibit in the Boone County Junior Beef Breeding Stock Show. All other Juniors will be eligible to exhibit in the Open Junior Beef Breeding Stock Show. (Exhibitors must be no older than age 21).

A junior member must make no more than two entries in each class.

Breeds show separately as defined under Open Show.
-
Judging schedule will be according to the dates and times listed at the beginning of the Beef Rules.
-
All bulls over 12 months of age must be broke to a nose lead.
-
7. All breed classes will be constructed on the same basis as the Open Breeding Cattle Show.

Breeding animals must meet the definition of the Breed Association. Breed registration papers must be presented upon arrival at the Boone County Fairgrounds.
-
9. Junior breed cattle will be released at the same time as open cattle, unless arranged otherwise with the Junior Beef Cattle Superintendent.

Four head must be present from at least two breeders to constitute a breed show. Otherwise, they will show in All Other Breeds (AOB) Class.
Class numbers are the same as for the Open Show.
Pee-Wee Show
The Boone County Fair Pee-Wee Showmanship events are for children ages 4-8 years old in the following divisions:
• Goat: Monday, July 21 between the Junior Dairy Goat and the Meat Goat Shows
• Sheep: Tuesday, July 22 prior to the Junior Market Lamb Show
• Swine: Wednesday, July 23 prior to Junior Swine Show
To participate in Pee-Wee Showmanship, visit the Show Palace prior the respective show to register. Suitable animals will be provided for the children to use. Pee-Wee Showmanship participants MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Pee-Wee Showmanship is an Open Fair activity and is not sponsored by 4-H.
Open Bucket Calf Show
The Open Bucket Calf Show begins after the 4-H Bucket Calf Show (which will start at approximately 1 pm on Sunday, July 20, 2008).
- Open to youth ages 4 through 7. Exhibitor does not have to be a 4-H member and the show is not sponsored by 4-H.
- This is an OPEN Bucket Calf Show. It includes NO competition. Prizes will be awarded during each show. No premiums are earned.
- Animal must be born March 1, 2008 or after. Calf may be beef or dairy -- heifer, steer, or bull. Only one child per calf. Calf exhibited in this class is not eligible for show in any other class by any other youth.
- Parent or guardian must be present.
- Youth may have assistance from one other individual if necessary. At any time an animal displays any form of danger to a participant, it will be removed from the ring and will not be permitted to participate.
- If you do not own a calf, you may borrow one, but the animal must be under the supervision of the child by being bottle or bucket fed.
- All bucket calves will be stalled in a location determined by the Superintendent for safety.

Steer Show Rules:

Important: The rules listed in the General Rules section of the 2008 Boone County Fair Book, in addition to following rules, will apply to the Steer Show.

Exhibitors must be at least 8 years old and no older than 21.
-
All cattle should be doubled-tied in stall areas with halter and neck rope.

Cattle will be released for tie-out at 8 p.m. Cattle must be tied in by 8 a.m. daily.

Stall assignments will be posted in the Cattle Barn according to official Livestock Entry Forms sent to the Boone County Extension Center by Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Unmanageable cattle that cannot be shown in the ring will not be judged or receive a ribbon. Nose leads are permissible. The judge or superintendent will make the final decision on cattle that are unmanageable in the ring.

Animals owned in partnership are not eligible to show in the Junior Steer Division.

Steers must have been calved after January 1, 2007, and owned by the exhibitor.

Breeds will show separately. To be eligible for breed class, the steer must meet the requirements as a registerable steer as set forth by the breed association. The percentages are: Angus 100%, Braunvieh 50%, Charolais 50%, Chianina (from a registered Chianina parent), Gelbvieh 50%, Hereford 100%, Limousin 50%, Maine Anjou 25%, Red Angus 86%, Salers 50%, Shorthorn 93.75%, Simmental 50%. Breeds that do not have three calves will show in the All Other Breeds (AOB) class. Breed percentages are determined by Breed Associations as pertaining to regional and national shows

Breeder’s certificate or registration papers must be presented. If adequate papers are not supplied, the steer will show in the Crossbred Class.

Judging will start at conclusion of the Breeding Cattle Shows on Sunday, July 20. The order of judging will be according to class numbers.

Steers may be checked by a state-licensed veterinarian who has the authority to have any animal deemed a health risk removed from the fairgrounds.
-
End gates must be closed and all barn lights extinguished by 12 midnight.
-
Steers will be groomed/clipped by the 4-H or FFA steer exhibitor, Ag Teacher, project leader, with assistance from the immediate family or other 4-H or FFA Boone County steer exhibitors only. (Immediate family is defined as father, mother, brother, and sisters of the exhibitor.) All animals will be groomed in barns or immediately adjacent to the barns. If this rule is broken the exhibitor will be banned from showing at the fair.

All calves must be completely sterilized and dehorned. Any visible scar must be less than ½ inch long.

Any alleged rule violation must be accompanied by a $50.00 deposit in order to be investigated, if valid the deposit will be returned, if not valid the deposit goes to the beef committee. The depositor has the right to present their opinion to the chairman.

- All steers will be entered in the Rate of Gain Class.
- Home raised steers identified at February weigh-in will be automatically entered into the home raised class.
- Those persons wanting to enter the group of three class must notify the Steer Superintendent at the July weigh-in.
